Licensing Works by Oliver Smith
The artwork displayed in the Galleries section of this website provides only a very small sample of Smith’s output, as exemplified in watercolors painted as renderings or drop elevations for some of the theater, film, ballet, and opera productions he designed. A list of all productions designed by Smith, in chronological order, is included at the end of the Biography portion on this site.
The Oliver Smith Papers, consisting of thousands of artworks and thousands of sheets of drafting (facilitating the recreation of his designs on stage), is housed at the United States Library of Congress’ Music Division, where it is made available to researchers. The Music Division also includes the papers of lighting designer Peggy Clark, who assisted Smith early in her career, and lit a number of his productions.
The intellectual property created by Smith, whether individual images for reproduction in scholarly publications or all design materials for a single production, is privately held, and licensed through this website.
